Puri: Activists of the student wing of Odisha Congress staged a demonstration in Odisha’s Puri on Monday to protest Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s scheduled visit to the pilgrim town to attend BJD’s foundation day function.
Ahead of the Chief Minister’s arrival in the seaside town, several student Congress activists holding placards and posters gathered near the district headquarters hospital and shouted slogans against the BJD government in the state.
Raising slogans like ‘Naveen Patnaik Go Back’ and “BJD Government Hai Hai’, the demonstrators alleged that the state government has done nothing for the development of Puri during the last 23 years of its rule.
Stating that Naveen has no right to visit the pilgrim town which remained neglected, the protesters tried to march towards the venue of the BJD function before they were stopped by the police.
Police personnel arrived at the site and prevented the protesters from proceeding further and took many of them into custody as a precautionary measure, sources added.
