Malkangiri: A student of Class 9 has gone missing from the hostel of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.
Jeet Haldar, son of Gopal Haldar, who is untraceable, is a student of JNV under Malkangiri Model police station limits. Police have filed two separate cases based on complaints filed by the Principal of the school and parents of Jeet. Parents of the missing student have levelled allegations against the school administration.
Gopal Haldar claimed that he was informed by the school at 11.30 am about his
son going missing. “When I reached the school and asked others, they told me that three teachers had beaten up my son and locked him inside the bathroom. Humiliated, he ran away. I request police to safely bring my son back,” he told the media.
Sources say there was an altercation between Jeet and some students over chocolates. Some teachers who stepped in to control the situation slapped the boy. After he was let out, fellow students could not find him and informed the authorities at the school. Since there is security at the gate, it is being speculated that Jeet could have escaped the hostel premises by jumping the boundary wall.
IIC of Malkangiri Model Police Station Rigan Kindo said a case has been filed about the missing student. Police are also probing the allegations made by the boy’s family of their son being physically assaulted by teachers. Efforts are on to trace the missing boy and hand him over to his family, he said.
