Keonjhar: A girl student of Government College of Engineering, Keonjhar was hospitalised on Thursday allegedly after ragging in the college hostel by her seniors.
According to the sources, there was a power failure in the third year girls’ hostel of Keonjhar Degree Engineering College. Around 10 students had gone to the hostel superintendent to complain in this regard.
When they were returning to their rooms, girls of the fourth semester started ragging them inside the hostel campus. The senior girls were asking them repeatedly why they had gone to complain to the superintendent.
The victims alleged that they were made to stand from 8 pm to 11 pm and could not eat their dinner. One of them fell ill in Thursday morning and was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital immediately.
Some students lodged a written complaint to the college principal about this.
Taking serious note of the matter, the principal asked the anti-ragging squad to investigate the incident and produce a report by Friday.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) had issued fresh anti-ragging guidelines for engineering colleges across the country recently.
As per a grievance report submitted to the UGC, Odisha ranked fourth among five states in the list of campus ragging in India.
