Nuapada: In a shocking incident, some students were allegedly engaged in septic tank cleaning on the premises of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalay in Komna block of Odisha’s Nuapada district. The incident came to the fore after its video clip went viral in social media on Sunday.
Sources said members of the school guardians’ committee and local residents of Tarboda had recently met Collector Hema Kant Say and alleged that the school is plagued by a host of problems while children are being engaged in various works. The villagers had submitted a memorandum to the collector seeking prompt action to sort out the issues.
The Collector had asked principal of the school Shanti Mohanty not to engage students in any work and resolve the issues within a month.
However, the students were engaged in septic tank cleaning in the school whose video has gone viral.
Asked about the incident, the principal explained that the children are told to do social works for an hour during holidays so that they will learn self reliance. They had done some social works on Good Friday, she added.
Contacted, the Collector said that the matter will be investigated.
