Puri: Total 154 students in Gandhiji’s attire took out a rally in Odisha’s Puri on Saturday to mark 154th Gandhi Jayanti to be celebrated on October 2.
The students from different schools and colleges participated in the rally to promote awareness about cleanliness which was one of the mantras of Gandhiji. The rally started from Singhadwar (Lions Gate) in front of the Jagannath temple in the town and culminated at Saradhabali.
Wearing dhoti and round spectacle and holding a lathi, the students raised slogans on cleanliness and Vande Mataram throughout the route of the rally. Some school students were accompanied by the parents who also held National Flag.
“We know that Gandhiji espoused the cause of cleanliness to develop a physically healthy and mentally sound society. As charity begins from home we believe that the habit of following clean practices should begin from individuals. If the people across all sections and ages adopt clean and healthy practices, the entire society will emerge a better one. The rally is an effort to promote awareness about Gandhiji’s tenets,” said national award winning filmmaker Asutosh Patnaik, one of the organisers of the rally.
