Dhenkanal: The students staged a dharna before an upper primary school after locking up its main gate for authorities’ indifference towards acute shortage of teachers in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Monday.
According to sources, only two teachers have been taking classes regularly in Janata Upper Primary School at Kangeila under Kamakhyanagar block of the district for a long time. Another teacher has been assigned the additional responsibility of CRCC.
As only two teachers have to teach all subjects of 3 classes to 152 students in the school, they find it exhausting. As a result, the quality of education has been seriously affected.
Though the students have drawn the attention of the block education officer (BEO) to the shortage of teachers in their school, no remedial measure has been taken so far.
As a final resort to draw the attention of the district administration, the students accompanied by their guardians locked up the main gate of the school and staged a dharna. They said they would continue their agitation and will not attend the classes until their demand was fulfilled.
