Bhubaneswar: The list of valid candidates for the students’ union polls in Odisha will be published on Thursday.

The students of universities and colleges across the state had filed the nomination papers on Wednesday for the elections slated for October 11.

Meanwhile, college and universities here were abuzz with activity as students began campaigning for the polls.

The candidates could be seen distributing cards, flowers and chocolates in the BJB Autonomous College. After a gap of two years, elections will be conducted in the college this year and the candidates are very enthusiastic about it.

“I have done many things for the development of the college. I hope that I will win the election. I will continue working for the development of the college. As we have only five days for campaigning, we are already at it,” said a candidate of the BJB Autonomous College.

The ‘What I Stand For’ meeting will be held on Friday, a day before the polling. The results will be declared the same day as the polling, after counting is completed.

The oath-taking ceremony of the winning candidates will be held on October 12, according to a notification issued by the Higher Education department on September 28.

Meanwhile, Ravenshaw University VC Ishan Patro informed that an FIR has been lodged at Mal Godown police station against a girl student and a boy student on charges of instigating other students to gherao the VC.

Notably, Vice Chancellor Ishan Patro, was on Tuesday rescued some 12 hours after being gheraoed by agitating students, who had been demanding direct elections in the university.

However, the authorities of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, Sambalpur University and Utkal University and some other colleges and universities have cancelled the elections following campus violence.
