Stumped By Corona, ECB Puts Off Domestic Cricket Season To August

London: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has extended the schedule of the domestic cricket season to August 1 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, it was scheduled to begin from July 1.

“The specifics of the season remain subject to ongoing advice from the UK government and health experts, but the ambition remains to host domestic men’s and women’s cricket across England and Wales later this summer,” an ECB release said on Thursday.

ECB is also working on different plans with Professional Game Group (PGG) to restart domestic cricket at every level, it added.

Besides, the players will come to the field only when it is safe as the well-being of everyone involved in the game is the top-most priority, ECB’s Chief Executive Officer, Tom Harrison told the media.

ECB, however, didn’t clarify on the cricket series between Ireland and West Indies that was supposed to take place in July.
