Sub-Inspector Caught Taking Bribe From Scrap Dealer In Odisha’s Bargarh

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance on Monday apprehended sub-inspector (SI) of police of Bijepur police station in Bargarh district, Jagaa Bariha, while allegedly accepting Rs 7,000 bribe.

According to the Vigilance release, the SI had demanded Ra 10,000 from a scrap dealer to allow him to run his business smoothly and not to lodge any case against him. When he expressed his inability to pay the amount, Bariha brought it down to Rs 7,000 and threatened him of stringent legal action.

Left with no option, the scrap dealer reported the matter to Vigilance authorities. Following which a trap was laid and the SI caught red-handed while accepting Rs 7,000. The bribe money was recovered from him and seized.

Simultaneous searches are currently underway at three locations linked to Bariha to ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

A case under Section 7 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered at Sambalpur.
