Sub-Jr Women’s National Hockey: Priyanka Nets 4 As Odisha Storm Into Semis With 8-1 Win

Ranchi: The Odisha girls roared into the semifinals of the 16th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women’s National Championship in Ranchi on Thursday.

Pitted against Maharashtra in the first quarterfinal, Odisha notched up a thumping 8-1 victory.

Priyanka Minz was the wrecker in chief, scoring four of the eight goals. She opened the floodgates in the 8th minute, and added goals in 26th, 41st and 54th minutes.

Priya Ekka netted two, with Sweety Kujur and Kiran Ekka sounding the boards once each as Odisha scored four in each half.

Standing between Odisha and a berth in the final are Madhya Pradesh, who defeated Mizoram 5-1.

The other two quarterfinals were closely-fought contests, with Uttar Pradesh edging Haryana 2-1 and hosts Jharkhand seeing off Punjab 2-0.
