Subhashree Death Case: Police Recreate Crime Scene With Accused In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Chittaranjan Jena, the prime accused in the death case of Subhashree Mohapatra in Odisha’s capital, was taken to her house in Shastri Nagar on Saturday to recreate the crime scene.

According to sources, the crime scene was recreated in the presence of Kharabela police. They took Chittaranjan and his mother to the spot.

Subhashree was found hanging at her residence in Shastri Nagar on Tuesday night. Chittaranjan was arrested by the Twin City Police Commissionerate on Friday evening.

During the crime scene recreation, Chittaranjan reportedly showed the police how he brought down Subhashree’s body, placed it on the bed and fled with the cloth she used to hang herself. He threw the cloth in a canal near Barunei.

Addressing mediapersons on Friday, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said Subhashree, who was married to Ananta Narayan Nath in 2014, came in contact with Chittaranjan in 2019 when she had gone to her father’s house in Nayagarh to attend a marriage.

Later, Subhashree and Chittaranjan kept in touch over phone. They also visited several places together and spent nights in hotels. Chittaranjan, who worked as a driver, stayed in Satyanagar here.

After Subhashree’s husband became suspicious of their relationship, he had confronted her, straining their married life.

Singh further said the day before Subhashree died by suicide, she had gone to her husband’s village on August 28. She had also gone to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar with another man. She had informed Nath about it.

When Subhashree told Chittaranjan about it over phone, the latter allegedly scolded her. He also went to Subhashree’s house at night, allegedly abused her and even beat her up. Later, he went back to his house.

Next day, Subhashree decided to end her life by committing suicide and called Chittaranjan to inform him about her decision, police said. Perturbed over her calls, Chittaranjan called up the tuition teacher who was staying near Subhashree’s house and taught her son, police added.

On Chittaranjan’s request, the tuition teacher sent his son to Subhashree’s house to see what she was doing. The teacher’s son peeked through the door to see her body hanging inside the house, police said. After the teacher informed Chittaranjan about it, the latter rushed to Subhashree’s house, broke open the door and brought down her body. On realising that she had died, he put the body on the bed and fled.

Thereafter, Subhashree’s son came home to find his mother lying motionless and informed his father.
