Cuttack: In further streamlining its services for vehicle users, the Odisha government has made submission of medical certificate online for availing driving licence (DL) and its renewal.
In a press release, the State Transport Authority (STA) said the Transport department will soon launch Aadhaar integrated faceless services to help citizens avail LL and DL services. Under this arrangement, online issuance of medical certificate has been mandatory. Similarly, in RTO centric application, the online production of medical certificate will be made mandatory in due course.
Medical certificate is mandatory for any person above 40 years of age who wishes to get a driving licence or those going for driving licence renewal as per Motor Vehicle Act. The medical certificate of a person applying for issuance of driving license or its renewal can be presented online in the form 1 (A).
Earlier, the government had decided that the medical certificate in form 1 (A) can be issued electronically under its 5T policy to improve the process of getting DL and reduce footfall in RTO offices.
Necessary facility has been provided in Sarathi portal where doctors registered in the portal can issue medical certificate directly which eliminates process of submission of medical certificate and verification in manual mode.
“Any doctor with MBBS degree or above is eligible to register on the portal. Registration of doctors is completely free of cost,” said Dipti Ranjan Patra, JCT, Technical.
He further said, “This will ensure no one can upload a fake medical certificate and get DL. In order to make whole system transparent, the portal is launched where the applicant can directly get medical certificate without hassle.”
The doctors who would volunteer to issue medical certificate through the portal will be provided with ID and password. They will have to upload the applicant’s certificate electronically on the Sarathi portal.
