Bhubaneswar: Two days after a suicide attempt by a Class XI girl of Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) no-3 at Mancheswar, the deputy commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan transferred the female physical education teacher (PET) to the Vyasanagar KV in Jajpur district.
In a letter. the deputy commissioner directed the KV-3 principal to immediately relieve the PET, Suryamani Patnaik. He also asked the principal of the Vyasnagar KV to inform the teacher’s date of reporting.
The DC’s order followed a demonstration by irate parents and guardians at his office on Saturday to demand immediate action against the PET.
The incident had taken place on Friday afternoon when the PET scolded the girl in abusive language and then beat her in front of other students when she was doing the physical workout in the school playground.
Unable to bear the insult, the girl jumped off the roof of the school building and fractured her legs and sustained deep wound on her chest. She was admitted to the ICU of a private nursing home in critical condition. Following the incident, the PET left the school.
