Mumbai: Sulochana Latkar, who featured in more than 250 Hindi and 50 Marathi films, breathed her last on Sunday due to age related issues. She was 94.
Born on July 30, 1928, Sulochana started her movie career in the Marathi film industry in her teens. It wasn’t long before she started getting offers from Bollywood and shifted to Hindi films.
Her daughter Kanchan Ghanekar confirmed her death with Indianexpress.com and said,
“She had age-related health issues and breathing problems. She died this evening at 6 pm,” her daughter was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Her ‘antim darshan’ will be held at her Prabhadevi residence, and the cremation will take place at Shivaji Park crematorium on Monday at 5.30 pm.
From her 40s, Sulochana became various directors’ favourite for mother’s roles.
She featured in ‘Dil Dekhe Dekho’ with Shammi Kapoor, ‘Aadmi’ with Dilip Kumar; a number of Dev Anand-starrers like ‘Johny Mera Naam’, ‘Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai’, ‘Duniya and ‘Amir Garib’; a number of movies featuring Rajesh Khanna such as ‘Baharon Ke Sapne’, ‘Kati Patang’, ‘Mere Jeevan Saathi’, ‘Prem Nagar’ and ‘Adhikar’.
She played the mother in a number of other hit films like ‘Kora Kagaz’, ‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’, ‘Himmatwala’ and ‘Andar Baahar’.
