Sultry Weather In Odisha Till July 5; IMD Issues Heavy Rain Warning For 3 Days

Bhubaneswar: The decrease in monsoon activity has resulted in an increase in humidity, leading to discomfort of people in most parts of Odisha, and this sultry weather condition is likely to continue till July 5 when a possible low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal may cause some rain.

The state will experience subdued rain for two days followed by heavy rain from July 5, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Monday. It had earlier predicted isolated heavy rain in some parts of Odisha from July 3-6.

According to the midday bulletin, thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati and Ganjam till 8.30 am on Tuesday. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may occur at many places in South Interior Odisha, Gajapati, Ganjam and at a few places in remaining parts of the state during this period.

On July 4, there is a yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts. Light to moderate rain or thundershower is also likely to occur at many places inf South Odisha and at a few places in North Odisha.

The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Kalahandi on July 5 with light to moderate showers in rest of the state.

On July 6, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal and heavy rainfall at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Balangir, Bargarh, Boudh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Angul and Keonjhar districts. Light to moderate rain or thundershower may also occur at most places in South Odisha and at many places in North Odisha.

Heavy rain warning continues for Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Boudh, Angul, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh during the subsequent 24 hours (July 7) with light to moderate thundershower at many places across the state.

In its extended range outlook, IMD had said that a low pressure area over north-west, adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal and coastal areas is likely to form around Tuesday (July 4).
