Bhubaneswar: Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, here has installed state-of-the-art CBC analyser with complete systemisation to emerge as the first hospital in eastern region to have the facility in the field of laboratory hematology.
The Sysmex XN 3111a analyser, the latest equipment in the field, has the technology to help systemisation in blood counts which include running CBC, making slides and staining those with the reflex rule, viewing those under an automated digital microscope and classifying the abnormality, said Dr Rajesh Kumar Bhola, Associate Professor in Department of Pathology in the hospital.
“The major addition to systemisation of CBC in IMS and SUM Hospital is the digital pathology CellaVision. It will speed up and simplify the microscopy slide review process while delivering more standardised results,” Dr Bhola said.
Stating that the analyser can do the stem cell count to help in bone marrow transplantation process, he said it would promote research related activities focusing on artificial intelligence and digital or virtual microscopy.
“We have also targeted more accurate platelet count by using one of the best technologies known as platelet fluorescence technology. We are also going to take the complete blood counts towards more completeness by introducing many novel advanced parameters for patient management,” he said.
The new equipment was unveiled in the hospital on Friday in presence of SOA vice-chancellor Prof Ashok Kumar Mahapatra, Dean of IMS and SUM Hospital Prof Gangadhar Sahoo, medical superintendent Prof Pusparaj Samantasinhar, deputy medical superintendent Dr Rajesh Lenka, Head of Pathology department Prof Debahuti Mohapatra and Director of SUM Central Lab Prof Rajashree Panigrahy.
