Bhubaneswar: SUM Ultimate Medicare (SUMUM), the capital city’s newest multi super-speciality quaternary care hospital, completed an eventful four years in the service of people on February 29.

Its technical expertise, skilled manpower, modern equipment and dedicated workforce have helped the hospital establish itself as a trailblazer in eastern India as the leading multi super-speciality hospital.

SUMUM, a unit of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA), boasts of more than 30 specialities including Emergency and Trauma Care, Cardiac Care, Advanced Surgical Procedures, Diagnostics and Imaging, Maternity Care, Physiotherapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Smoking Cessation, Sleep Lab and rehabilitation services for a broad range of medical conditions.

SUMUM also has several disciplines and Centres of Excellence including Cardiac Sciences, Neuro Sciences, Plastic, Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery, Critical Care, Pulmonology, Gastro Sciences, Joint Replacement and Orthopaedics, Renal Sciences, Onco Sciences and Nuclear Medicine.

The 350-bedded hospital provides facilities such as SPECT GAMMA Camera, Linac (True Beam), Dedicated Trauma ICU, PET CT Scan, 3 Tesla MRI, 14 Modular OTs, 128 Slices CT Scan and HDR Bravos Brachy Therapy.

SUMUM achieved the NABL and HACCP accreditation within 2 years of inception and NABH accreditation within 365 days, despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic. It’s also the first hospital in India to have achieved 5th edition NABH accreditation.

SUMUM has so far treated over 1,65,000 patients and conducted more than 17,50,000 diagnostics. The hospital has also conducted over 25,000 surgical interventions, more than 39,000 therapies and 15,000-plus PET CE and Gamma scans.

SUMUM is home to a dedicated cancer treatment unit called Hope Springs Block, which has provided care to more than 5,00,000 cancer patients.

The Hope Springs Block is an integrated comprehensive cancer care centre, and the only one in Odisha that offers a wide range of services and treatments under one roof such as Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology, Pediatric Oncology, Hemato Oncology, Palliative Oncology, Onco-Pathology and Nuclear Medicine.

SUMUM scripted medical history in Odisha when multiple organs harvested from a brain-dead patient was rushed to three different cities for transplantation, providing a new lease of life to four critical patients last year.

Prof. (Dr) Manojranjan Nayak, Founder and President of SOA, emphasised that SUMUM’s efforts have not only benefited the region but also boosted medical tourism in the state.

“SUMUM’s compassionate and world-class medical care delivery has put Odisha on the global healthcare map. It’s remarkable how they have expanded their services to cater to patients from around the world,” he said.

SUMUM CEO Dr Swetapadma Dash said, “We are constantly pushing the boundaries of healthcare by investing in cutting-edge technology and expanding our services. We’re committed to providing exceptional patient care and earning the trust of our community through our innovative healthcare practices. SUMUM’s journey has been remarkable and we’re grateful for the trust our patients and their families have placed in us, and we’ll continue to strive to exceed their expectations.”

Brig. (Dr) Biraj Mohan Mishra, Chief of Medical Services at SUMUM, said the hospital is committed to providing quality and affordable care to patients and making a positive impact on their lives.

“This commitment is at the core of our mission, and we will continue to uphold it as we raise the bar in the healthcare industry,” he said.
