New Delhi: Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Microsoft’s Satya Nadella promised help to India as the country battles a ravaging coronavirus second wave that has left hospitals overwhelmed and supplies critically low.
According to a tweet by Sundar Pichai, his company will provide ₹135 crore funding to UNICEF and the non-profit Give India for medical supplies. It will support high-risk communities, and grant to help spread critical information about the COVID-19 virus.
“Devastated to see the worsening Covid crisis in India,” the Alphabet chief tweeted.
Satya Nadella was “heartbroken” by the current coronavirus situation in India. He added that his company will continue to use its resources and technology for relief efforts and support purchasing oxygen devices.
The Indian-American CEO also thanked the United States government, via a tweet, that has promised help to India in the crisis.
“I am heartbroken by the current situation in India. I’m grateful the U.S. government is mobilizing to help. Microsoft will continue to use its voice, resources, and technology to aid relief efforts, and support the purchase of critical oxygen concentration devices,” Nadella tweeted.
Meanwhile, Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates was lighted up with tricolour, to show solidarity to India, amid the prevailing COVID-19 crisis in the country.
