Sundargarh: The Odisha government on Sunday suspended Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Sundargarh, Pankaj Patel for alleged dereliction of duty
Collector Nikhil Pawan Kalyan has also been issued a show-cause notice for lapses in implementing ‘Mo Sarkar’ initiative in the district headquarters hospital, official sources said.
During Secretary to Chief Minister (Transformation and Initiatives) VK Pandian’s visit to the district to review healthcare facilities and infrastructure in the state-run hospital on Sunday, two poor women had allegedly complained about patients being asked to get medical tests done in private labs and showed him the documents, sources said.
They were undergoing dialysis at the hospital.
In utter disregard for instructions, cooked food was also not being provided to the patients in the hospital, the sources added.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had rolled out ‘Mo Sarkar’ programme, which finds its roots in the Gandhian philosophy of giving people their voice in daily governance, on October 2.
Many view this strict action against the CDMO and Collector as a right step in the right direction to bring visible change in governance.
