Bhubaneswar: Music lovers are in for a treat as SoFar Sounds is set to hold its second live show in Odisha capital, on Sunday.
The show will be held at Echoes Restro Bar rooftop in Infocity Patia.
SoFar Sounds’ first event here was held at Aura Lawns in Patia last October when over a hundred people attended it.
SoFar Sounds provides a platform to independent artists who create their own music, to present it to the world through live intimate gigs involving a limited number of people.
“SoFar Sounds is a community of music creators and lovers… we aim to provide local artists an independent platform where they can showcase their original compositions and music,” Rajiv Mukherjee, one of the curators of the event, told Odisha Bytes.
“Any artist who is registered with SoFar Sounds can get a chance to perform in SoFar events across the globe. Exceptional performers also get to publish their music under SoFar Sounds label,” he added.
The curator requested denizens to contribute to this cause of building a community of music enthusiasts. “Anyone who wants to present their talent in music can reach out to us and we are also happy to set up shows at your place if you give us the space to do so,” he said.
Sunday’s event will feature the following artists from the city:
* Smrutika Padhy, a popular face around the city with her performances at various live shows. She performed at the recent Dot Fest 2023.
* Pranab & Seba, one of Bhubaneswar’s most popular and talented duos who write, compose and perform their own songs.
* Mayank Rath, Hip-hop music artist and producer, who has collaborated with many artists in the Indie music scene.
Renowned singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran and Billie Eilish, and Indian artists like Anuv Jain and Prateek Kuhad have been associated with SoFar Sounds and performed at their shows during the early stages of their music career.
Rajiv also informed that, unlike other music concerts, the events held by SoFar Sounds are usually intimate affairs with the audience strength usually ranging from 25 to 40 people and even at large-scale events, the number does not cross 150.
All SoFar events are done majorly through collaboration and they rarely have to pay the venue owners. SoFar events are often held on rooftops of music lovers’ houses.
“We have this interesting concept of not revealing the venue until 36 hours before the event, whereas we start the ticketing process a month in advance. This is because even we are unsure of who will come forward to collaborate with us… we decide the venue 2-3 days before the event, based on the offers we get for collaboration,” Rajiv added.
