Cuttack: Sunil Kumar Bansal took charge as Director General of Police (DGP) of Odisha Police on Friday. Bansal took the charge from Abhay, who retired today.
A 1987-batch IPS officer of Odisha cadre, Bansal was working with the Intelligence Bureau as Special Director. He was on Central deputation since 1994 and has held several key positions with the IB.
Bansal assumed the DGP’s charge at State Police Headquarters here. He was given a ceremonial guard of honour in the presence of a number of senior police officials.
Speaking to mediapersons after taking charge Bansal said, Odisha Police has earned name and fame in other states for its Maoist control activities. “I will make all efforts to take ahead the good work started by my predecessors on all fronts. Service to the people as a ‘seva bhav’ will be my first priority,” Bansal said.
He also touched upon the the cyber crime and said he will work towards strengthening the cyber security in the state.
Bansal had served as the chief of the district police units in Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur before going on Central deputation.
In his message, former DGP Abhay thanked the people of Odisha for their cooperation in maintaining law and order. “COVID-19 pandemic had been testing time for all of us and we stood strong together to fight it. Bringing down the Left Wing Extremism and organised crime has been possible because of the support of people,” Abhay said and wished everyone a peaceful New year 2022.
