Mumbai: Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan’s infamous fallout during ‘Darr’ has often made headlines, with their disagreement over the film’s climax reportedly turning into a heated confrontation.
The clash left the two actors on strained terms for years, until they reportedly reconnected following the success of ‘Gadar 2’ in 2023.
Now, opening up about his long-standing fallout with Shah Rukh, Sunny admitted that insecurity played a role in their on-set clash.
The actor also revealed that despite their professional history, he and Shah Rukh are not friends.
In a conversation with Shubhankar Mishra, Sunny shared, “At a younger age, main yeh toh nahi kahunga ki ek doosre se voh cheez nahi hoti hai. Voh hoti hai. I’m not an insecure person, but because of insecurity, kitne actors bohot kuch aise cheezein kar jaate hain jo unhe karne ki koi zaroorat nahi hai.( At a younger age, I wouldn’t say that people don’t feel that way towards each other. They do. I’m not an insecure person, but because of insecurity, many actors end up doing things that they really don’t need to do.)”
“Because we can only be the character we are, we cannot be anything beyond that. But somehow, quite a lot of actors feel insecure, and uski vajah se phir vibes galat ho jaati hain, cheezein aisi ho jaati hain jiski hone ke koi zaroorat nahi thi. But then, that’s the reality of filmmaking, (Because of that, the vibes become wrong and things happen that didn’t need to happen. But then, that’s the reality of filmmaking,)” Sunny explained.
When asked if he is friends with Shah Rukh today, Sunny said, “Toh uss waqt bhi kahin dushman toh nahi the. Haan, dost means, we’re all colleagues. Film industry main I would say we are all more like colleagues rather than, you know.”
Sunny said that his closest friends are those he made during his school days, rather than people he met in Bollywood, because he believes genuine friendships are formed in childhood.
“dosti voh hoti hai jahan aap nange ho, aur voh bachpan main hi hoti hai. (Friendship is when you can be completely vulnerable with someone, and that kind of friendship usually happens only in childhood,)” he said.
