New Delhi: Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2,’ released on the big screens on August 11, has had a closing collection Rs 685.19 crore. It has become the 7th highest-grossing film in Hindi cinema after Dangal, Jawan, Pathaan, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Secret Superstar and PK. This surely is great news for Sunny Deol on his 66th birthday on Thursday.
Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, is the sequel to his film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. It follows the story of Tara Singh (Sunny Deol) who goes missing during a skirmish. He is believed to have been captured in Pakistan. Tara’s son Jeete (Utkarsh Sharma) sets out to rescue him and enters a labyrinth, from which they both must escape at all costs. Whether they can do that or not forms the core theme of Gadar 2. This film is set against the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Simratt Kaur Randhawa, Ameesha Patel, Manish Wadhwa, and others have acted in this movie. Critics opined that Gadar 2 offered nothing novel in terms of storyline and only focussed on spreading hatred against the neighbouring country.
So, will there be Gadar 3? In an interview with ANI, Anil Sharma said, “You’ll have to wait for that. Intezar ka fal meetha hota hai (the fruit of patience is sweet), just like this one (Gadar 2). Some thoughts have come to me and Shaktimaan Ji’s (writer of Gadar 2) minds. So just wait, everything will happen.” At the end of Gadar 2 the film credits read, “to be continued” which raised the fans’ excitement for the third instalment of the film.”
Gadar 2 started streaming on the OTT platform Zee5 on October 6.
