Bhubaneswar: Sunstroke-related deaths in Odisha this summer has mounted rose to 41, Public Health Director Nilakantha Mishra informed on Monday.
Speaking to the media, Mishra said that 151 suspected sunstroke deaths were reported in the state. “While 41 among them have been confirmed to have occurred due to heatstroke, joint inquiry is underway in 73 cases. 26 deaths were caused due to other reasons,” he said.
He further said that around 10 families took away the bodies without postmortem. “Sixteen more persons with heatstroke symptoms were admitted to various hospitals yesterday,” he added.
According to the office of Special relief Commissioner, 8 suspected sunstroke death cases were reported in the last 72 hours.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded yellow warning of heatwave till June 14. Hot and humid weather conditions are also likely to prevail in coastal districts during this period.
