Shimla: In a possible super spreader scare in Himachal Pradesh, over 150 monks in a Buddhist monastery in Dharamsala have reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
The large number of COVID-19 cases was reported at Gyuto Tantric Monastery.
Over 300 monks have reportedly tested positive for coronavirus so far in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Kangra, Dr Gurdarshan Gupta was quoted as saying by news agency ANI on Tuesday.
“One monk in critical condition has been shifted to Tanda Medical College. Others are in isolation in the monastery itself,” the CMO informed.
He added that the monks who have been home-isolated had travelled from Karnataka and Delhi for New Year. “The monastery has been closed for visitors since February 5,” he said.
As of Tuesday, the active Covid-19 case tally in Himachal Pradesh stands at 434.
