Bhubaneswar: A young man, who had sustained snake bite, was saved by doctors after superstition pushed him to brink of death in Khurda district.
According to sources, the 18-year-old youth, identified as Lipu Nayak of Bania Tangi in the district, was bitten by a poisonous snake on his right leg while he was catching fish in a river a few days back.
After Lipu informed his family members about the incident, they took him to Nilakantheswar temple in the village. The temple priest attempted to cure him with his ‘supernatural power’. He poured some ‘purified’ water on Lipu’s head and when he started shivering, he sent the latter to his home.
After some time, when Lipu’s condition deteriorated and his infected leg started swelling, his family members brought him to the Capital Hospital, here. The doctors administered anti-snake venom injection to him, following which, his condition improved, the sources said.
