Superwoman: NepaIi Sherpa Sets Record Of Himalayan Proportions

Kathmandu: A Nepali sherpa achieved a unique ‘perfect 10’, becoming the first female mountaineer to climb Mount Everest as many as 10 times.

Lakpa Sherpa was among a group of climbers who reached the summit of world’s highest peak on Thursday morning, thus surpassing her own record, reported AP.

Her brother and expedition organizer Mingma Gelu informed that the 48-year-old Lakpa was in good health and safely descending from the 8,849-metre (29,032 feet) peak.

Lakpa, who lives in the US with her three children, has always wanted to inspire women achieve their dreams.

She herself didn’t get a chance to get formal education as she had to start earning early by carrying climbing gear and supplies for trekkers.

Among men, Nepalese Sherpa guide Kami Rita holds the record for most number of Everest conquests. He reached the summit for the 26th time on Saturday.
