New Delhi: A response was sought from a private school in Odisha by the Supreme Court following a plea filed by 24 students. The students accused the school of illegally demanding money and put undue pressure on them to take admission in Class XI in the same school if they want a good score in Class X.
Taking note of the students’ lawyer’s submission, a bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar issued a notice to St Xavier International School, Bhubaneswar. The bench also comprised Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar.
“Issue notice. The counsel for the petitioner submits that in terms of liberty granted by this court, a copy of the petition has been given to the respondents. None appears for Respondent 3 (school). Accordingly, issue notice returnable on February 14…,” the bench ordered.
Earlier also, the top court issued notices to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Centre acting on the plea.
The students through lawyer Mamta Sharma filed the plea seeking inquiry against the school for allegedly demanding money and putting undue pressure to take admission in Class XI in the same school if they want to get good scores in Class X.
