New Delhi: The Supreme Court said on Wednesday that it may pass interim order on Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea in the Delhi liquor policy case on Friday.
Justice Sanjeev Khanna told Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, who appeared for Enforcement Directorate (ED), to be ready with his submissions on Friday.
“We may pass that order (on interim bail) on Friday. The main matter related to the challenge to arrest (by ED) will also be taken on the same day,” Justice Khanna said.
The matter was heard on Tuesday, but the Delhi chief minister didn’t get any relief from the top court as Justices Khanna and Dipankar Datta didn’t pronounce an order granting him interim bail to enable him to campaign in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The bench said it didn’t want Kejriwal to discharge his official duties if he is released on interim bail, as it would lead to a conflict of interest.
“Suppose we grant you interim bail on account of elections… Then if you say you will attend office, it may have a cascading effect. If we give you interim bail, we don’t want you to perform official duties as somewhere it will lead to conflict of interest. We don’t want your interference at all in the working of the government,” the bench said on Tuesday.
Kejriwal, who was arrested by the ED on March 21 in a money-laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy, is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.
