New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday quashed the sedition case against senior journalist Vinod Dua, news agency ANI reported.
The case was filed by a BJP functionary in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh over a YouTube show by the journalist on March 20 last year. The complainant had alleged that Dua accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using “deaths and terror attacks” to get votes.
Following this, Dua was charged under Sections 124A (sedition), 268 (public nuisance), 501 (printing matter known to be defamatory) and 505 (statements conducive to public mischief).
On July 20 last year, the Supreme Court had extended the protection granted to Dua from any coercive action in the case till further orders.
Then on October 6, 2020, an SC bench of Justices UU lalit and Vineet Saran had reserved the verdict on Dua’s petition seeking quashing of the case after hearing arguments for the journalist, Himachal Pradesh government and the complainant.
