Supreme Court Reserves Judgment On Kejriwal Bail Plea; Order Likely On Tuesday

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its judgement on petitions filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking bail and challenging his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the now-scrapped liquor policy.

The top court could deliver its order on September 10.

“Order reserved. Thank you. See you on Tuesday,” a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan said as it finished hearing arguments from the two sides.

Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21, was granted bail by the top court on July 12, but he remained in prison after Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested him over the same case.

During the arguments on Thursday, Supreme Court pulled up CBI for arresting Kejriwal while he was in judicial custody in the ED case.

“When you are in custody… if you are arresting him again, then you need the permission of the court. There is something in the criminal procedure code,” Justices Kant and Bhuyan told additional solicitor general SV Raju who is representing CBI.
