New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India’s YouTube channel has reportedly been hacked, and news and promotion about XRP, a cryptocurrency from the US-based Ripple Labs, were broadcast from it.
The SC uses the YouTube channel to stream live hearings of cases involving public interest. Recently, it broadcast the hearings of a trainee doctor’s rape and murder at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital.
Viewers searching for recordings for past hearings found that these have been set private and a live video titled ‘Brad Garlinghouse: Ripple Responds To The SEC’s $2 Billion Fine! XRP PRICE PREDICTION.’
The Indian Express quoted an SC official as saying that the SC website “appears to have been compromised.” SC officials noted the security breach on its YouTube channel on Friday morning. The SC’s IT team has taken up the matter with the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
The Supreme Court administration has started an enquiry into the hacking of the channel, sources told Bar and Bench. The channel’s link has been disabled by the Supreme Court registry.
