Massive protests and candlelight marches were held in different parts of the country on Friday against the Pulwama terror attack, in which 40 CRPF personnel were martyred the previous evening, while curfew was imposed in Jammu city following violence during demonstration.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, along with Congress president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal paid tributes to the slain troopers by placing wreath on the coffins carrying their mortal remains, at the Palam technical area in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, a Surat-based couple decided to cut down their wedding celebrations in a show of respect to the current situation. Sheth and Sanghvi families held a simple wedding of their daughter and son, Ami and Meet, while cancelling all other functions including the reception, on Friday. They instead donated Rs 11 lakh to families of the soldiers killed in the terror attack and another Rs 5 lakh to different NGOs. A message was circulated among guests about the cancellation of the celebrations and they also mentioned that the wedding will be a simple affair considering what had happened in Kashmir.
