Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Suresh Kumar Routray on Wednesday resigned from all committees of the party.
He sent a letter to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Sarat Pattanayak in this regard soon after his younger son, Manmath Routray, joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and was nominated by the party for Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat.
“My son Manmath Routray joined the BJD against my advice. It has hurt me. Therefore, I am willing to tender resignation from all committees of the party,” the six-time Jatni MLA said in the letter.
He, however, added that he would remain in Congress till the end of his life.
Earlier in the day, Suresh Routray had said that he will not campaign for Manmath but will pray for his victory. He also urged his supporters to put their weight behind him and ensure his win irrespective of the party.
