New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a PIL seeking direction to the CBI to submit a status report in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.
“We are not going to entertain this. You go to the High Court,” the bench comprising Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian said while junking the petition.
Bollywood actor Sushant was found hanging in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020.
The petition, filed by advocate Puneet Kaur Dhanda, stated that more than five months have elapsed since Supreme Court passed an order on August 19, 2020, for Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation of the case, and yet the CBI has not concluded the probe.
“The CBI is not acting responsibly in the present case and there is a delay in the conclusion of the investigation of the case. Even in serious offences like murder, the law stipulates filing of charge sheet in 90 days but in the present case the premium investigating agency has failed miserably in their role and the unnecessary delay in the present case is bringing bad name to the administration of justice not only in our country but across the globe,” the plea said.
Dhanda’s plea wanted the apex court to direct the CBI to complete its probe within two months and submit a final report.
Supreme Court ordered CBI to take over the probe from Mumbai Police and Bihar Police to look into the alleged abetment to suicide case against Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her family, filed by the actor’s father KK Singh in Patna.
