Mumbai: A petitioner has moved the Supreme Court urging it to give a deadline to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for completing its investigation in the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.
According to an IANS report, the petitioner, in the plea moved through advocate Vineet Dhanda, has stated that CBI is not acting responsibly in the SSR case and the delay in the probe is bringing a bad name to the judicial system.
“This Court passed an order for CBI inquiry on August 19, 2020, and despite a lapse of almost four months, the CBI is yet to conclude its investigation and all the eager family members, fans, well-wishers of the late actor are yet to get a solace regarding the exact reason of the death of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput,” stated the plea.
“The CBI is not acting responsibly in the present case and there is a delay in the conclusion of the investigation of the case,” added the petitioner.
The petitioner further urged the top court to fix a period of two months for the completion of the probe.
“Even in serious offenses like murder, the law stipulates filing of charge sheets in 90 days but in the present case, the premier investigating agency has failed miserably in their role and the unnecessary delay in the case is bringing bad name to the administration of justice not only in our country but across the globe,” read the plea.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Bandra residence on June 14.
The Mumbai police had declared it a suicide. But when the late actor’s father moved to the Supreme Court, the case was handed over to the CBI for investigation.
It’s been four months now and the investigating agency has not come up with any conclusive report yet.
