New Delhi: Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra was on Monday appointed as the new Chief Election Commissioner. He replaces Sunil Arora who has retired.
Chandra, the senior-most Election Commissioner, will assume charge as CEC on Tuesday (April 13).
President Ram Nath Kovind appointed Chandra as 24th CEC. He was appointed Election Commissioner in February 2019, ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
He would demit office on May 14, 2022. Under him, the Election Commission would hold assembly polls in Goa, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
