Bhubaneswar: Susmita Das, a singer known for uniqueness of her rendition and choice of lyrics, stands out among musicians in Odisha. Her recent music video ‘Kumari Manara Katha’ narrates the fun, frolic and laughter associated with Raja festival. The song ‘Laja laja hoi asila raja lo….’ has been penned by well-known writer Devdas Chhotray while Om Prakash Mohanty has composed the music.
“Raja is a unique festival of Odisha during which womanhood is celebrated. The video has covered every aspect of the festivals, the games and the swings,” said Das while speaking to Odishabytes.com.
Her rendition of eminent poet Mayadhar Mansingh’s classic poems ‘Maya Darpan’ released in 2007 had received much accolades. An AIR Cuttack artiste, Das has been popularising Odia songs across the country and abroad during stage shows. “Though the organisers request me to sing popular Odia and Hindi movie songs during such shows, I stick to my own,” said Das, whose single music album ‘Aau nakara kaha age guhari….’ with traditional rhythms and tunes earned rave reviews during Utkal Divas.
