Suffocation, Not Food Poisoning Claims Lives Of 3 Of Family In Odisha Village

Dhenkanal: Three members of a family were found dead under mysterious circumstances at Asabania village under Kantabania police limits in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Monday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Golap Sahu and her sons, Pintu Sahu and Litu Sahu.

While initially it was suspected that the mother and sons died of food poisoning after having chicken curry and spinach for dinner last night, police attributed it to suffocation as they

were sleeping in a closed room with a burning coal chullah.

According to sources, they were rushed to Angul district headquarters hospital on Monday morning after they were found seriously ill and did not respond despite repeated attempts to wake them. The doctors, however, declared them dead on arrival. Angul ADMO Dilip Kumar Patnaik also attributed the deaths to suspected food poisoning. “The exact cause can be determined only after postmortem,” he told reporters.

Sources further stated that Golap’s husband, Antaryami Sahu, works in a private company and has two wives, who live in separate houses in the village. Antaryami did not have food at home and went to his second wife’s house to sleep. Subsequently, the mother and her sons went to bed after reportedly lighting a coal chullah in their room to keep warm against the intense cold.

“The exact cause of their death will be ascertained after the autopsy report arrives. We have registered a case in connection with the incident and further investigation is underway,” Hindol SDPO Satya Prakash Nanda was quoted as saying.
