New Delhi: Suspected armed militants ambushed a police team in Manipur, injuring a commando. The incident took place in the Moreh town of Tengnoupal district at 3:30 pm on Saturday. The militants used IEDs and other explosives to ambush the security forces.
The state security forces retaliated after the attack.
According to news agency PTI, unidentified gunmen targeted vehicles carrying police commandos when they were moving towards Key Location Point (KLP) from Moreh.
The injured policeman is undergoing treatment at 5 Assam Rifles camp, the agency further reported.
Earlier last month, an India Reserve Battalion (IRB) jawan and a civilian were killed in an ambush carried out by unidentified armed men in the Kangpokpi district of Manipur.
The ambush took place between Haraothel and Kobsha villages, where a car carrying IRB personnel and his driver came under gunfire, resulting in fatalities.
In a separate incident, a teen was shot dead by unidentified men in Manipur’s hill district Kangpokpi, 45 km from the state capital Imphal. The incident happened at 2.30 am on Saturday, NDTV reported
More security forces have been deployed in the village and combing operations are going on, sources said.
