Suspicious Suitcase Triggers Panic Near Pipili Station

Pipili: Panic gripped passengers after a suspicious suitcase was found abandoned near Birapurushottampur railway station at Pipili in Puri district on Friday.

According to available information, the open suitcase with electric wires was spotted lying abandoned beside Pipili-Delang railway track by some locals, who immediately alerted the police.

Following the incident, the railway authorities halted as many as five trains at different places suspecting presence of bomb inside the suitcase.

As soon as the news spread, many panic-stricken passengers jumped off their respective trains and ran away from the station with their bags and luggage.

On being informed, a team of Railway Protection Force (RPF) rushed to the spot along with a dog squad and seized the suitcase after inspection.

Train services resumed after the RPF personnel ruled out existence of bomb-like material or explosives item in the suitcase.

“The Puri-Okha Express and Talcher-Puri MEMU train were stopped near Birapurusottampur while Puri-Angul train was halted near Delang station. Besides Puri-New Delhi Nilachal Express and another train were stopped near Sakhigopal,” a railway official informed.
