Kolkata: Suvendu Adhikari, who joined the BJP a week ago, said on Saturday that he is ashamed of his long association with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) which is now a ‘company’ rather than a political party.
“The political party I had been associated with earlier has no discipline now. It has turned into a company from a party. I am ashamed of having been associated with that party for 21 years,” Adhikari said during a felicitation programme at BJP’s election office in Hastings.
Adhikari claimed that West Bengal needs the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reiterated that the state will be more developed if the party in power at the Centre forms government in West Bengal.
“I am once again saying that if BJP forms the government in West Bengal then the state will flourish and economic growth will be higher. I would like to thank our home minister Amit Shah ji for accepting us in the land of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. BJP is the largest political party in the world. Now I am a member of this nationalist, pluralist, disciplined and patriotic party. Our objective would be to make the party win the forthcoming Assembly elections and create Sonar Bangla,” observed the former transport minister of West Bengal.
Taking a potshot at chief minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress, Adhikari said that her party has deprived 70 lakh farmers of the state by not implementing PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi policy in West Bengal.
Referring to the death of 135 BJP workers in the state, Adhikari said: “Several party workers went a long way and sacrificed their lives. Now it is our responsibility as obedient party workers to take it forward.”
Senior TMC Sougata Roy lashed out at Adhikari, saying that he is trying to malign the party after having taken all the benefits from them for so many years.
“Suvendu has enjoyed all the benefits from Mamata Banerjee for 21 years and is now trying to tarnish the party’s image. May he gain back his consciousness sooner than later and understand the true face of the BJP,” said the Dum Dum MP.
Adhikari has taken along over 40 TMC leaders and workers to the BJP. One of the architects of Nandigram movement, which paved the way for the party coming to power in 2011, Adhikari was a major force in TMC’s ground-level organization.
