Mumbai: Actor Swara Bhasker has been hospitalised after being diagnosed with dengue.
The actor took to Instagram Stories to share a health update with her fans, posting a photo of herself in a blue-and-white chequered hospital gown with an IV line attached to her wrist.
Along with the photo, Swara wrote, “Well that escalated fast. Dengue-fied and hospitalised!”
Swara is not the only actor to have recently battled dengue.
Actor Avika Gor was also hospitalised after being diagnosed with the viral infection. Her husband, Milind Chandwani, shared a health update about her in a video posted on Instagram.
Although dengue has traditionally been associated with the monsoon season in India, cases of the mosquito-borne disease are now being reported throughout the year.
Dengue Symptoms
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), common symptoms of dengue include fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, nausea, vomiting and skin rash.
Warning signs of severe dengue include:
- bleeding from the nose or gums
- abdominal pain or tenderness
- repeated vomiting
- blood in the stool and vomiting blood.
These symptoms require immediate medical attention.
How To Prevent Dengue
Dengue-spreading Aedes aegypti mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. To reduce the risk of infection:
- Remove stagnant water from flowerpot trays, coolers, buckets, tyres and other containers every week.
- Keep water-storage containers tightly covered.
- Use mosquito repellents and wear clothes that cover the arms and legs.
- Install mesh screens on doors and windows and use mosquito nets, especially during daytime sleep.
