Swift Police Action Foils Theft Bid On NH In Odisha’s Ganjam, 2 Held

Berhampur: In a quick response, vigilant police personnel successfully intercepted and apprehended two criminals involved in a daring theft operation near village Rangipur in Golanthara area of Odisha’s Ganjam district.

The criminals were engaged in cutting of a container lying beside the road in a secluded place near village Rangipur and trying to take away the stolen parts in a vehicle.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Rabi Behera alias Vicky (27), and Rabi Muli (40), both residents of Old Berhampur, Mentu Chowk under Badabazar Police Station limits.

The two were arrested and presented before the court. Investigation into the incident is underway, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M said.

Acting on intelligence inputs during a patrolling on NH-16, the police team swiftly mobilised towards a secluded roadside location where suspicious activity was reported. Upon arrival at the site, the police team observed two individuals hurriedly attempting to flee from the scene.

Demonstrating exemplary coordination and agility, the team pursued and apprehended the suspects after a brief chase.

During the operation, officers seized one Tata ACE, which was found loaded with iron cut parts from the abandoned container. Alongside the vehicle, two gas cylinders and various cutting tools used in the act were also confiscated. Upon interrogation, the culprits admitted to using the equipment to dismantle the container and extract iron parts for illegal resale.

This successful intervention once again underscores the commitment of Berhampur police in maintaining law and order and protecting public property through proactive policing.
