Koraput: Three volunteers from Switzerland extended a helping hand in collecting plastic and garbage from the streets in Koraput town, leaving locals astonished with their support for the cause of Swachh Bharat.
The three volunteers—Martina Stigare, Theiry Hanuzeker and Nataly Bhatra were accompanied by Koraput Municipal Executive Officer, Gaurachandra Patnaik, during their cleanliness drive.
Inspired by the foreigners, some local youth groups also chipped in to help.
Besides cleaning the streets, the Swiss trio also educated locals about how cleanliness and hygiene improves overall health and also keeps the environment clean.
After the drive, the foreign volunteers said they were very satisfied with the fact that they had contributed a small bit towards keeping Koraput clean.
Patnaik said it was commendable that despite being foreigners, the three had offered their services to clean the town. “This will go a long way in strengthening Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. It will also spread the message loud and clear to the locals that we all have to grow up and take care of our city, state and country in a self-motivated manner,” he added.
