Berhampur: Residents of a village in Khallikote area of Odisha’s Ganjam district were left terrorised as a group of miscreants hit the streets wielding swords and pelting stones after a cricket match.
According to preliminary information, the incident took place at Balukeswar village under the jurisdiction of Khallikote police station in the district late on Wednesday night. The incident was stated to have taken place as a fallout of some past rivalry relating to a cricket match.
Sources said around half-a-dozen youths stormed the village and moved around the roads holding and waving swords. They also threw stones at a house in the village. A villager reportedly managed to record the whole scene on mobile camera.
According to locals, some controversy had cropped up between two groups during a cricket match in the village recently and the matter had also reached the police.
However, it is yet to be ascertained whether the incident was a fallout of the same dispute or due to some other issue.
Sources said the villagers informed the police about the incident of Wednesday night. Teh police have started an investigation into the incident and the mobile footage is being examined.
