Bhubaneswar: As part of its people’s awareness programme on tribal communities of the state, the state government will conduct a virtual tour on life and culture of Kutia Kandha tribe on Sunday.
The people can know about the Kutia Kandha tribe by opening the Facebook and Twitter pages @stscdev, @scstrti, said Director SCSTRTI Prof AB Ota. The Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste Development Department has been conducting virtual tour to Odisha State Tribal Museum every Sunday.
Kutia Kandha tribe lives in the south-west Odisha, especially Kandhamal and Kalahandi districts, which are surrounded by hills. The families of this tribe are mostly nuclear and their social, economic and religious activities revolve around the family.
Though they earn livelihood from shifting cultivation, their major income comes from making brooms, mats and baskets. The Kutia Kandhas wear distinctive attire which includes ornaments for self-defence and have tattoos on their arms and faces. They are also fond of music.
