Malkangiri: Taking selfie without precaution near a waterfall turned fatal for two brothers as they died of drowning in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Saturday.

According to sources, the family of Balakrushna Sahu of Jaypore in Koraput district had gone on a picnic to the waterfall at Gummajharan under Mathili police limits in Malkangiri.

Two brothers of family, 34-year-old Pradip Sahu and 30-year-old Sandip Sahu, went to take selfie near the waterfall while others were busy making arrangements for cooking. While the two brothers were taking selfie standing on a huge stone, Sandip slipped and fell into the waterfall.

As he did not know swimming and struggled to keep himself afloat, Pradip jumped into the swirling water to save him. Despite Pradip’s efforts, both of them were dragged into deep water by a strong current and drowned.

The local people rushed to the spot and brought the two brothers, who has lost consciousness, out of the water. The family took them to a hospital at Mathili. But the doctors declared the two brothers brought dead.
