Chennai: Hours after the Civil Aviation Ministry laid out the norms for domestic air travel, Tamil Nadu imposed a few additional guidelines including a mandatory 14-day home quarantine for asymptomatic flyers.

Earlier, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had asked Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri not to allow domestic flights till May 31.

Apart from the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the Centre, Tamil Nadu has made it mandatory for flyers to remain in home quarantine for 14 days and will provide institutional isolation for those not having facilities for home quarantine.

Flyers will have to register on TNePass portal.

Karnataka, Punjab, and Kerala too have added 14-day quarantine for domestic passengers with different rules.

Karnataka will quarantine those travelling from high risk areas such as Delhi, Punjab and Kerala.

Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Telangana are reportedly considering quarantining flyers.

Travellers arriving in Tamil Nadu will have to enter the vehicle number in the ePass portal as well.  Those opting for institutional quarantine will be sent to government or paid facilities.

Apart from social distancing and thermal scanning, luggages will be disinfected by the airport authorities. Officials who directly deal with passengers will wear PPES, masks and protective gear.

Only asymptomatic persons will be allowed to board flights out of Tamil Nadu.
