Baripada: A youth in quarantine centre at Anla panchayat under Betnoti block in Mayurbhanj district allegedly committed suicide on Thursday night.
The deceased, identified as Surendra Behera, had recently returned from Tamil Nadu along with his wife and was being kept at a quarantine centre in Dambarudahar area as per the goverment protocol. The 35-year-old was a native of Raikama village under Baisinga police limits in the district, sources said
He was found hanging from a tree near the quarantine centre last night.
Notably, Mayurbhanj has so far reported nine COVID-19 positive cases. All the infected persons had recently returned to the district from different states.
Earlier, a 38-year-old man had allegedly attempted suicide by consuming phenyl at a quarantine centre near the GCD High School in Rayagada district. A native of Palsora in Ganjam district, he was sent to the quarantine centre after he arriving in the district on April 7 amid the state government’s directive for isolating such cases.
